3 people you always need in your network

my mom never taught me spanish.

In her defense, my dad had a tendency to correct her spanish (she's Puerto Rican, he's not…. so that feels like a relevant part of the story😅)

When i was 8, we moved from Brooklyn to NC, away from all of our titi’s and tio’s, the carne fritas, and (most impactfully) the coconut icees.

I didn’t realize I was missing out on anything until I grew up. Especially when I married a (half) Puerto Rican man. He says things like “chacho” and “pobrecito” in his everyday language. He struggles to translate the occasional word from spanish to english. He knows ALL the Bad Bunny lyrics.

And I'm lowkey jealous about it. I never quite gained the colloquialisms and latina spice in the same way (except when I'm mad - apparently that's genetics 😜). And while it's never too late to learn, trying to adopt a new language or add culture into my everyday is so much harder as an adult.

we do the same thing in our businesses

When you launch your business, you find out all you need to know for what you're doing right in that moment, not the business you'll have in five years. You don't come pre-equipped with knowledge on how much you can sell in a state before you have to collect sales tax. No one explains that before you hire that amazing human, you have to do extensive research on the payroll laws for their state. There's no timeline on how long a tool will be right for you.

You just… figure it out. And then a few years goes by and you're paying back-taxes, getting bookkeepers to remap 3 years of financial data, and paying an arm and a leg to have your entire operational system rebuilt because none of your tech works well together.

Why does this happen? Because somewhere along the way you either assumed you weren't “ready”, decided it wasn't worth the investment right now, or believed that doing it blind was what everyone else had to do.

It doesn't have to be that way.

here are 3 people you need in your network

Whether you've been in business 1 year, 5 years, or more, you should know these people.

  1. Fractional COO/Operations Strategist: My scaling roadmap can be beneficial at any stage of your business, and one VIP Day could give you a year worth of clarity and direction around how to achieve your goals - with far less redo's.

  2. Human Resources Advisor: Whether it's your first hire or your 3rd failed hiring experience, a HR Advisor can give you valuable advice on job descriptions, managing employee relationships, payroll, etc. My friend Georgette even offers on demand HR Advisory services!

  3. Fractional CFO: Their role requires planning and looking into the future. If you need some advice on your business structure, referrals for CPAs or bookkeepers that can help you at your current stage, or general advice on how to avoid financial pitfalls, this is a great connection to have.

There are plenty more specialists and executive level strategists from marketing to legal, and they could give you advice BEFORE it's too late. Reach out to those roles, follow them on socials, better yet PAY for a strategy call, or a VIP Day. You'll be making a small upfront investment with a BIG return.
